Man's death probed as homicide

Rocky Mount police are investigating the death of a man who was found early Wednesday morning as a homicide.

Officers responding to a call about a suspicious event about 6:15 a.m. in the 400 block of South Church Street found a 58-year-old black man dead at the scene.

Police are withholding the victim’s identity until the next of kin can be notified. The case is being investigated by the Rocky Mount Homicide Unit.

The case is the city’s fourth homicide of the year and second in less than a week. Officers responding to a call about an aggravated assault on Saturday found 38-year-old Antwon Chisley dead from gunshot wounds on the 100 block of Sullivan Lane.
