TARBORO — A safecracking heist at a local Pizza Inn restaurant turned out to be an inside job.

Shane Preston Allen Keel, Maquez Edge and Jaquez Edge, all 18 and from Tarboro, were charged by the Tarboro Police Department with felony counts of breaking and entering, larceny and safecracking.

The trio is accused of stealing money from Pizza Inn on June 2.

At approximately 2 a.m. June 2, Police Cpl. Steven Dail found the back door of Pizza Inn open during a routine business check. A closer inspection revealed that the interior office door had been forced open, said Taboro Police Chief Jesse Webb.

"Based upon these observations, a K-9 unit was requested to conduct a search of the building; however, no one was found inside," Webb said.

The scene was processed for evidence during which the safe was discovered missing. Ultimately, the case was forwarded to the Investigations Division, Webb said.

Det. Sgt. Brandon Richardson canvassed the area adjacent to the restuarant. He gathered evidence linking at least three people to the crime, including an employee who was identified as Keel.

Once the other suspects were located, they cooperated with Richardson's investigation.

The three were released on $10,000 unsecured bonds each pending further court proceedings.

Webb said the case's resolution was the result of good police and detective work.
