The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office captured a suspect who was on the loose after stabbing and robbing a store owner on Tuesday on U.S. 258 northeast of Tarboro.

Detective Lt. E.W. Muse Jr. of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office said Cedric Antwan Parker, 38,was arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.

Authorities said Parker entered the Bestway Grocery & Grill about 11 a.m. Tuesday and demanded money from store owner Mohammad Naser. When Naser refused to comply, deputies said, Parker stabbed Naser in the upper abdomen with a large butcher knife.

Naser was able to disarm Parker after the initial attack. However, Parker was able take $1,000 from the register and flee on foot. Deputies and detectives determined Parker to be the suspect in the attack after gathering information from Naser, his sons and people in the the area.
