Police seek leads in homicide

Rocky Mount police are investigating a murder that happened over the weekend.

Cpl. Brad Summerlin of the Rocky Mount Police Department said Jamal Rashad Harris, 31, was found by authorities about 4:15 p.m. Saturday in the roadway in the 600 block of Cleveland Street after officers responded to a shots fired call in the area.

Summerlin said Harris suffered gunshot wounds, was treated for injuries and transported to Nash UNC Health Care. Summerlin said Harris later died from his injuries in the hospital. He added Rocky Mount police have no suspects at this time. The murder was the second homicide this year in Rocky Mount, Summerlin said.
