Rocky Mount police arrested one man in a shooting involving officers on Friday and are looking for a suspect involved in a Thursday afternoon shooting that resulted in a man being hospitalized.
Authorities said no one was wounded and a suspect is in custody after officers patrolling about 4 p.m. Friday along Old Mill Road and Forest Hills Avenue saw a person with a handgun standing beside a tree, according to a press release. The officers turned their vehicle around to investigate.
As officers approached, the person fired the handgun in the direction of the officers, and one of the officers returned fire. Police said no injuries were sustained in the exchange of gunfire and the suspect was taken into custody. A handgun also was recovered. The investigation remains ongoing.
On Thursday, officers were called to a domestic situation at a residence in the 800 block of Sutton Road about 2:50 p.m. Thursday between a 23-year-old man and his girlfriend. Cpl. Brad Summerlin of the Rocky Mount Police Department said the domestic situation escalated and the girlfriend’s brother shot the 23-year-old man and fled.
Summerlin said no arrest has been made at this time and the 23-year-old male victim was transported to Nash UNC Health Care, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
