A domestic dispute on Monday night resulted in a woman being hospitalized from stab wounds and a local man being arrested by Rocky Mount police after a brief vehicle chase.
Wayne Wilkins Jr., 37, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and felony speeding to elude arrest. Cpl. Brad Summerlin of the Rocky Mount Police Department said officers responded to an aggravated assault about 6:05 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Stonebridge Lane.
Summerlin said a 32-year-old female victim had to be transported to Nash UNC Health Care after allegedly being stabbed by Wilkins. Summerlin said Wilkins and the female victim were having an argument while sitting in their separate vehicles parked outside of the residence.
Summerlin said Wilkins rammed his car into the victim’s vehicle. He later got out of his vehicle, walked over to the victim’s car and allegedly stabbed her as she sat in the vehicle, Summerlin said. Wilkins fled the scene in his vehicle. After a pursuit by officers on Interstate 95, Wilkins was apprehended and taken into custody.
Wilkins was jailed without bond in the Nash County Detention Center. Summerlin said he was unaware of the condition of the victim.
