Tarboro authorities are investigating the death of an elderly woman at a local assisted living facility.

Rebecca Eudy, 75, was found unresponsive by rescue workers at 10 p.m. Thursday at Open Fields Assisted Living on Western Boulevard in Tarboro. Emergency workers and police responded to a call from employees of the facility, said Tarboro Police Chief Jesse Webb.

Responding officers contacted the police department’s Investigations Division, which also responded.

Detectives assessed the scene and requested an autopsy be performed.

A medical examiner determined late Friday afternoon that the cause of death is unnatural.

"Based upon this information, the Tarboro Police Department, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, initiated a death investigation to determine what happened to Ms. Eudy," Webb said.

Investigators are conducting interviews and examining potential evidence, Webb said.

Anyone with information should call Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.
