Police charge suspect in stabbing

A drunken brawl late Sunday sent one man to the hospital and another to jail.
Cpl. Brad Summerlin said Rocky Mount police were called about 10:49 p.m. Sunday to the 300 block of Marigold Street where they discovered several men who had been apparently drinking and some of whom admitted to using narcotics. An altercation had ensued and a 57-year-old man had been stabbed multiple times with a knife. The victim was transported to Vidant Hospital in Greenville, where at last report he was in stable condition.
Based on witness testimony, Rocky Mount police arrested David Edwards, 23, of Rocky Mount. Edwards was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury. Edwards is being held without bond in the Edgecombe County Detention Center because of a parole violation.
