The female victim of a murder-suicide Sunday in Halifax County was a Rocky Mount resident who reportedly worked as a stocker at the Wal-Mart in Rocky Mount.
Though Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp refused to identify the homicide victim or the suspect in the case, he did say that the investigation at this point indicated “ongoing domestic issues involving the deceased female and decreased male suspect.”
Deputies arrived at the suspect’s home on Sunday to find him dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The female victim’s co-workers identified her as Donna Richardson. On Tuesday, Richardson’s obituary appeared online, identifying her as Donna Katrice Richardson, 36, of the 3400 block of Sunset Avenue in Rocky Mount. According to her obituary, Donna Richardson died Sunday at the Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids. Her funeral arrangements have not yet been announced but are being handled by Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton.
An obituary for Freddie Richardson, Donna’s husband, also appeared on Tuesday. Richardson, 57, also died on Sunday. His funeral arrangements are being handled by the Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg.
According to a published newspaper announcement of their engagement, Donna and Freddie Richardson, both of Hollister, married on May 22, 2010.
A statement by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday reported that Halifax County deputies responded about 4:30 p.m. Sunday to a call in Hollister. Deputies arrived to find one woman, now identified as Donna Richardson, dead and another woman seriously injured.
Witnesses at the scene provided the name of a possible male suspect, reportedly Freddie Richardson, who was found dead at his home.
The name of the other victim has not been released, but the sheriff’s office said that she had been transferred to an undisclosed medical facility. Because she has not been identified, her status is unknown.
