A Christmas Grinch was arrested last week by Rocky Mount police after he allegedly stole roughly 20 gifts from a home on Dexter Street.

Antonio Farmer, 34 of Rocky Mount, was arrested and charged with felony breaking and  entering, felony larceny and possession of stolen goods in connection with an incident that occurred Saturday.

Cpl. Mike Lewis of the Rocky Mount Police Department said a resident at a home on the 600 block of Dexter Street reported the theft of about 20 Christmas presents about 6:30 p.m. Saturday night.  By following leads, Rocky Mount police were able to track down Farmer as a suspect in the crime and took him into custody. As a result, some of the missing presents were recovered.

Two other Grinch-worthy events also occurred just prior to Christmas.

About 5:49 a.m. on Saturday, a woman at the Americas Express Inn on the 300 block of Mosely Court called in a report that her pit bull dog had been stolen from her hotel room. Rocky Mount police are looking for a black male suspect in his mid-20s in connection with that incident.

About 9:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve, a resident of a home on the 1400 block of Old Mill Road arrived home to find their door forced open. A television and several Christmas presents were stolen. Rocky Mount police are still investigating the break-in.

Lewis said that break-ins and robberies generally tend to increase during the Christmas season.
