Man killed in shooting

Rocky Mount police are investigating the weekend shooting death of a city man.

Leroy William Dunston Jr., 44, died Saturday as result of a gunshot wound.

Officers with the Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a call at 4:54 a.m. to a shooting on the 300 block of North Pine Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found an injured Dunston.

Dunston was transported to UNC Nash Health Care where he succumbed to his injuries.

Dunston’s death is being investigated as a homicide, according to a press release by Tameka Kenan-Norman, the city’s chief communications and marketing officer.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” Kenan-Norman said.

Detectives are seeking information from any witness who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting.
