Moped operator killed in wreck

A moped operator killed last week in a traffic accident in Tarboro has been identified.
Jerome Pettaway, 55, died on Nov. 15 when his moped collided with a 1995 Ford on Wilson Street near Western Boulevard in Tarboro. Lt. R. Mann of the Tarboro Police Department said the accident occurred about 6 p.m. near the EP Mart on Wilson Street.
Mann said the Ford was heading west in the turning lane on Wilson Street and had the right of way. The moped was traveling east in the same lane, resulting in a head-on collision. Pettaway died at the scene, Mann said.
No charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
