On the heels of two large drug busts in Nash County over the weekend, deputies with the Nash County Sheriff’s Office aided in arresting four suspects and seizing more than $5 million in methamphetamine Tuesday in northern Iredell County.
Members of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office Highway Interdiction Team collaborated with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in the joint operation along Interstate 77. The joint effort was a part of Operation Tarheel Gauntlet.
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies reported observing suspects exchanging packages between four vehicles at a business just off of the interstate. All four vehicles were stopped a short time later.
A K-9 unit on the scene alerted deputies to the presence of illegal drugs, authorities said. After a search of the vehicles, deputies found a large box filled with containers of methamphetamine, authorities said. According to reports, a backpack filled with cash was found in another vehicle, and a brown paper bag filled with cash was found under the seats of the other car.
In all, authorities said, more than 28 pounds of methamphetamine valued at $5,189,184, more than $100,000 in cash and four vehicles were seized as a result of the operation.
Deputies arrested Rofelle Delone Nash, 36, of Marrow, Georgia; Paul Edward Glover III, 28, of Charleston, West Virginia; Christian Daniel Delgado Hernandez, 32, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and John Douglas Shanell Gray, 39, of Atlanta. The suspects face felony trafficking charges and charges of conspiring to traffic more than 400 grams of methamphetamine by possession as well as other drug charges.
The suspects were jailed in Iredell County.
The Nash County Sheriffs Office and the Regional Drug Task Force also arrested five people Saturday in Nashville. Authorities said they seized 283 bricks of heroin and 101.1 grams of raw heroin while making the arrests.
On Sunday, Nash County Sheriffs deputies arrested two more people in Rocky Mount. Nearly six pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a firearm, ammunition and $1,000 in cash were seized in the raid, authorities said.
