Fire at empty home under investigation

Officials are investigating a structure fire that occurred at an unoccupied home Monday morning on Blandwood Drive.
Firefighters were called to the home on the 1000 block of Blandwood Drive at 9:05 a.m. Monday. The fire caused moderate damage to the home, officials said. No active utilities were turned on at the structure, officials said.
Cpl. Mike Lewis of the Rocky Mount Police Department said vagrants possibly took shelter in the home at times. No one was present at the time units responded, and no one was injured in the blaze. The cause remains undetermined at this point, officials said. Authorities are in the process of contacting the legal property owners.
