With the help of Facebook users, a Nashville man was arrested by Rocky Mount police Friday and charged with crimes allegedly committed last week in Knightdale.

Rocky Mount police arrested Jeffery Scott Cockrell, 29,  Friday on the 1500 block of Benvenue Road.

Cockrell has been charged with aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft in connection with an incident reported on Nov. 7. Knightdale police identified the suspect as part of their investigation and posted the following statement on the Knightdale Police Department Facebook page:

“OK Kdale, we need the help of all of the eyes in town. This guy is suspected of pushing a lady and stealing her car. He has been seen around Knightdale Blvd/ First Ave over the last couple of weeks. Today, he got away in a gold Maxima, NC Registration EMR-1043.”

Cockrell was jailed under a $5,000 bond in the Nash County Detention Center after his arrest Friday.

The Knightdale police credit the help of law enforcement officers and Facebook users for solving the case.

“Thanks to all the calls we had in helping to identify him, the FB shares and the work of our LEO partners in Nash County,” Knightdale police posted on their Facebook page Saturday. “We appreciate all of the help our law enforcement partners gave. And we especially thank all the citizens that helped us pull this case together.”
