A reported car accident at the intersection of North Grace and North Church streets late Monday night turned out to be the result of a shooting.

Rocky Mount police responded to a call about 10:50 p.m. Monday night at Rocky Mount Awning and Tent, where they discovered that a gold 2015 Nissan Altima had plowed through the fence and into the building.

As they investigated the condition of the driver, police discovered that he had been shot. An eyewitness at the scene reported that bullet holes riddled the door of the vehicle.The victim, Quadray Kwama Neville, 25, was transported to an unidentified medical facility for treatment. Nash UNC Health Care did not have a him listed as a patient at any time and his current condition is unknown.

The damage to the building is estimated at $35,000 and the damage to the vehicle was estimated at $15,000. Police do not know where the shooting took place and have no suspects at this time. The incident is still under investigation.
