A Nash County man was killed Saturday in what Nash County deputies are calling a homicide.
Deputies received a report of a suspicious death at 9:30 a.m. on the 3500 block of N.C. 58 near Viverette Road. When they arrived, they found a man identified as Randy Colegrove, 53, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a news release sent Sunday from the Nash County Sheriff’s Office.
The release stated Nash Emergency Medical Services personnel pronounced Colegrove dead at the scene when they arrived. No other information was available from the Sheriff’s Office. Chief Deputy Brandon Medina said Sunday afternoon the agency is still working on the case and no other information is available.
“We are still working the case and leads,” Medina said.
Saturday’s homicide is now the county’s fifth homicide of the year. Danny McCalston and Brian Scott Keen were killed only minutes apart from each other in the overnight hours between Sept. 17 and 18 just outside of Castalia in two separate incidents. Trudy Rosser was killed by her husband Aug. 24 in Whitakers in a murder-suicide.
Glorika Cherta Townsend was killed in late August. Shantonio Lucas was arrested Sept. 4 in connection with her death. Joseph Anstead was arrested Sept. 18 in connection with McCalston’s death while Michael Steven Stell, the suspect wanted in connection with Keen’s death killed himself Sept. 18 while deputies searched for him.
Anyone with information about Colegrove’s death Saturday just outside Nashville is asked to contact Nash County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Sherrod at 252-557-5278, Nash County Communications at 252-459-1510 or Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.
