Alleged gang members indicted

Seven alleged gang members have been indicted on federal drug charges.
Seven alleged members of the Sex, Money, Murder (SMM) Scotland Neck-area Bloods street gang were indicted June 27 by a federal grand jury on a variety of heroin charges including conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute heroin, distribution and possession with the intent to distribute a quantity of heroin and aiding and abetting, possession with intent to distribute a quantity of heroin, distribution of a quantity of heroin and felon in possession of a firearm.
Arrested in the investigation were Markell Desettan Wiggin, 31, Bo’Neka Sarrell McDaniel, 27, Reginald Savage, 46, Collin Lee Whitaker Jr., 23, Kevin Dwanye Carswell, 30, Dantee Brown, 35, and Shanta Venita Hines, 27.
Six of the seven men indicted in the case are in custody, awaiting trial. Hines was released on pre-trial conditions.
The arrests were made in the case following a joint investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Tar River Regional Drug Task Force N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement, Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Pinetops Police Department, Scotland Neck Police Department, Tarboro Police Department, Rocky Mount Police Department and Nash County Sheriff’s Office.
