A local furniture manufacturing operation was destroyed by fire Thursday.

Rocky Mount fire crews responded at about 10:43 a.m. to That Place Inc. at 107 Highland Ave. to find the single-story brick structure engulfed in flames and heavy smoke.

Three people escaped from the building before fire crews arrived, according to a press release from the city, and no one was injured in the blaze.

Firefighters battled the blaze with ladder trucks due to the extent of the damage and the total collapse of the roof, the press release stated.

Personnel from the Nashville Fire Department, Battleboro Community Volunteer Fire Department, Red Oak Fire Department and Sharpsburg Fire Department also responded to the blaze.

Officials said the 12,400-square-foot building appears to be a total loss.
