State Rep. James Gailliard, D-Nash, will be holding a series of three upcoming town hall meetings in Nash County to connect with members of the community.

“When I was elected, I made a commitment to my constituents that I would hold town hall meetings to stay in touch. I committed to holding 20 events to connect with people in a two-year period, and this is part of an effort to fulfill that commitment,” Gailliard said.

The first event will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Community Building at 104 Community Drive in Spring Hope.

The second event will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the O.D. Moore Community Building at 814 South Alston St. in Nashville.

The third town hall meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Impact Center at 821 Word Plaza in Rocky Mount.

“I think it is important that communities be civically engaged. I want to create an appetite in Nash County for that kind of civic engagement, and I think these town hall meetings will help create that engagement,” Gailliard said.

Gailliard said the meetings will allow time for public input from the audience.

“These will be true town hall meetings. I will speak for about 20 minutes or so sharing some updates about topics including redistricting, Medicaid transformation, Medicaid expansion and education. Then I will take questions from the audience for about 30 minutes,” he said.

The meetings also will be broadcast live on social media and people watching from social media outlets will be able to ask questions during the meetings, Gailliard said.
