The Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for a few good men and women to serve as Chamber Ambassadors in the local community.

Desiree Dolberry, marketing coordinator for the Chamber, said the volunteer ambassadors serve as liaisons between the Chamber and its members, as well as represent the Chamber in a variety of civic, cultural and community events. Any person who works for a business that is a Chamber member can serve as an ambassador.

“Our ambassadors are representatives of who we are,” Dolberry said. “They help to tell our story and in turn, inspire even more local businesses to become part of what we’re about.”

Ambassadors provide business mentoring and visit businesses throughout the year and are actively engaged at all Chamber events like ribbon cuttings and grand openings.

“We really appreciate these highly motivated individuals who volunteer their time to maintain communication with our business members and help ensure that our members maximize their Chamber investment,” she said.

Dolberry said each ambassador’s time commitment varies over the course of a year, depending on changing work schedules.

“That’s why we like to have a good-size group,” she said, “so if someone needs to take a break for work commitments, we’ve got others to call on to step up.”

The ambassadors get to socialize as a group throughout the year and an Ambassador Of The Year is chosen by the Chamber each year. The 2018 Ambassador of the Year was Shane Lancaster of Coastal Credit Union. Dolberry said Pfizer and Boddie-Noell Enterprises sponsor the Ambassador program.

Jennifer Gold of Holden Temporaries Inc. has been the chairwoman of the ambassadors since 2017.

Gold said her favorite part about being a Chamber ambassador is being a part of such an amazing community and meeting new people.

“I get to see how every day bigger and better things are happening in the Rocky Mount area. The Chamber staff is wonderful, and no matter where life takes me, I will always be extremely grateful to each and every one of them for the opportunity to serve as ambassador chair,” Gold said.

Gold said she doesn’t have a real recipe for being an ambassador for the Chamber but lets her enthusiasm for the group and her community speak for itself.

“I enjoy going to Chamber events and have only missed a handful of events since joining the ambassador program in 2016,” she added. “I’m so proud of my part in the ambassador program and thankful my company, Holden Temporaries, encourages me to take part in such a rewarding program.”

Gold said that she has a wonderful team of ambassadors, but they are always looking to add more team members.

“Anyone interested can email me at jennifer@holdentemp.com and I’ll gladly send out information about the program,” she added.
