Area schools to close ahead of Dorian

With the impact of Hurricane Dorian approaching the Twin Counties, the list of closures by community colleges and schools is growing.

Here is the list so far:

■ Nash Community College and the Child Development Center will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

■ Edgecombe Community College will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Weekend classes and events are going to resume on Saturday.

■ Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Also, evening activities, including after-school care and athletics, are canceled.

■ Edgecombe County Public Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Shelters are set to open at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Tarboro High School and G.W. Carver Elementary School. No pets are going to be allowed.

■ North East Carolina Preparatory School will be closed on Thursday and on Friday.

■ Rocky Mount Preparatory School will be closed Thursday and Friday.

■ Rocky Mount Academy will close at noon on Thursday and will remain closed on Friday. All after-school activities including athletic games and practices will be cancelled, and the After-School Enrichment program will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

■ New LIfe Christian Academy will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

■ The Nash-Rocky Mount school board meeting scheduled for Thursday has been rescheduled for Sept. 12.
