Candidate filing for this year’s municipal elections is almost upon us.

Hopefuls will have from noon on July 5 to noon on July 19 to officially toss their hat into the ring.

The candidate filing form along with the filing fee must be received by the appropriate elections office before the filing deadline. This includes mailed notices of candidacy regardless of the time the letter was deposited in the mail, Nash County Elections Director John Kearney said.

In the Oct. 8 Nash County municipal election, the mayor and three city council seats — Wards 3, 4 and 5 — will be on the ballot in Rocky Mount. The filing fee is $25.

In the Nov. 5 Nash County municipal elections, the mayor and two town council seats are up for grabs in Nashville. The filing fee is $10.

Also up for election are municipal seats in Bailey, Castalia, Dortches, Middlesex, Momeyer, Red Oak, Sharpsburg, Spring Hope and Whitakers.

In the Oct. 8 Edgecombe County municipal elections, the mayor and two city council seats — Wards 1 and 3 — will be on the ballot in Rocky Mount. The filing fee is $25, according to Bessie Martin, a senior election clerk with the Edgecombe County Board of Elections.

In the Nov. 5 Edgecombe County municipal elections, Tarboro town council seats in Wards 2, 4, 6 and 8 will be up for election. The filing fee is $10. Town commissioner seats in Ward 1 and 2 will be open for election in Princeville. The filing fee is $5.

Also on respective municipal ballots will be seats in Conetoe, Leggett, Macclesfield, Pinetops, Sharpsburg, Speed and Whitakers.
