The Rocky Mount Police Department will sponsor its 19th annual Junior Police Academy during a pair of summer sessions.
The first academy will take place June 24-28, while the second academy runs from July 22-26. Academies run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are open to youth ages 13-18.
“Area youth are important to us, and this is another way that we can meet each other in a positive environment,” Rocky Mount police Sgt. Brad Summerlin said. “It’s always a great thing when our youth are able to better understand how the police department serves the community.”
Participants in the academy will learn about police procedures and what it means to be good citizens. Rocky Mount police officers also will provide face-to-face time with participants in fun environments and will lead ride-along sessions.
Registration for the academy is $35, and seats will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
