Kimberlea Bauer admittedly was worried prior to her first soccer clinic that was held in September 2018.
She had lined up professional soccer players from North Carolina FC to attend the clinic, but sign-ups leading up to the day of the event had been slow.
Her anxiousness is now optimism as the first event went so well that another is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. on April 28 at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex.
The Ballers for BundasKids pro soccer clinic had 85 attendees in September, and Bauer was implored to have another.
“It went great and was so well-received,” Bauer said. “Everyone was asking, ‘When can you do it again?’”
Bauer, a Rocky Mount resident, is the founder of BundasKids, a nonprofit group that promotes youth soccer and education in the west African country of Gambia.
Bauer has been making trips to Gambia since 2016, and each time she ships barrels of athletics gear, education supplies, clothing and more to an underprivileged population of youth.
Twelve barrels of supplies were delivered during her most recent trip in February, and a soccer clinic was held for 50 girls under the tutelage of the top Gambian women’s soccer team.
Ballers for Bundaskids is open to youth ages 5-16. The $50 registration includes instruction from North Carolina FC players, a string bag and sports bottle provided by Circle K, snacks provided by Sheetz and a free soccer ball for the first 50 athletes to sign up.
Athletes also will receive a free game ticket to North Carolina FC’s match against Birmingham Legion FC on May 18 in Cary.
One youth also will be selected to win an autographed jersey of a North Carolina FC player by donating used soccer gear at the clinic.
