The second annual Nash County High School Band Showcase will be presented beginning at 5:30 p.m. tonight at Northern Nash High School.

This year’s theme for the showcase is “Together We Play.” Four local high school bands will be showcasing their progress so far this year. The marching bands performing at the event include the Northern Nash High School Band, Rocky Mount High School Band, Nash Central High School Band and Southern Nash High School Band. The event costs $5.

Tammy Rundle, one of the organizers of the event, said the showcase helps raise much-needed funds for the band programs.

“Our showcase is needed to provide the band booster organizations with the necessary money to support the marching band programs in the high schools,” Rundle said. “What many do not understand is that the marching band program is deemed an extracurricular activity and is not provided funding by the public school system. The showcase is critical to helping fund the program for the year.”

Last year was the first year for the showcase.

“We had more than 800 people attend last year’s event and had a lot of positive feedback,” Rundle said.

Each of the bands also is seeking individual or business sponsors. For more information about sponsorship opportunities, go to http://northernnashbands.org/showcase. Sponsorship packages range from $99 to more than $10,000.  Sponsorships entered on this page will go toward supporting students at all four schools and will apply to advertising for next year’s showcase.
