Locally-owned small businesses will be honored during an upcoming event in the Twin Counties.

The Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce will host its 2018 Small Business Celebration on Thursday at the Rose Hill Conference Center sponsored by ElectriCities and Family Medical Center.

The Small Business Business Celebration will feature several awards recognizing local small businesses such as the Small Business Advocate of the Year, Legacy Business of the Year, Rising Star Small Business of the Year and People’s Choice Award.

The event also will feature the Small Business of the Year Award, which Boone, Hill, Allen and Ricks Real Estate won last year. The event also will provide the small business community a chance to do a full night of networking.

David Farris, president and CEO of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, said the event will give local small business owners a chance to be the focal point.

“This annual recognition of our small business is one of our most important events,” Farris said. “Like our country, this community has grown and prospered thanks in large part to our small business. In addition to supporting families, our educational community and our economy, small businesses are helping our community become more appealing for larger companies to locate here. Our Chamber was formed 114 years ago by small businesses, and the vasty majority of our membership are still small businesses today.

“We congratulate and thank all businesses both large and small for their choosing to be part of our community.”

This month, Chamber officials said, the organization hosted several activities that highlighted small businesses in Nash and Edgecombe counties. The Chamber held a coffee exchange at Krispy Kreme in Rocky Mount where the small business committee, ambassadors and new Chamber members got an opportunity to network. In addition, the Chamber hosted a couple of small business workshops that provided guidance and information to small businesses in the area.

The upcoming occasion is sold out and Rose Hill will provide a variety of heavy hors d’oeuvres at the event.
