A Nash County native running for the state Court of Appeals has been officially endorsed by the state Republican Party.

State District Court Judge Jefferson Griffin grew up in Red Oak and graduated from Northern Nash High School, where he was captain of the football team.

Griffin has served three years on the bench in Wake County.

“When it comes to the statewide judicial races, North Carolina Republicans have spoken,” said state GOP Chairman Robin Hayes. “We have selected qualified judicial candidates that respect the rule of law, the North Carolina and U.S. Constitutions, and understand that the role of our judges is to show judicial restraint in judging and not to legislate from the bench.”

Republicans also are endorsing state Supreme Court Justice Barbara Jackson, Court of Appeals candidate Chuck Kitchen and Court of Appeals candidate Andrew Heath.
