For a long time open only one day a week for five hours, the Farmers Market will now be available on another day for patrons.

It will be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.on Tuesdays starting this week, adding to its Saturday opening from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The market had tried something similar in the past, opening on Wednesdays during the morning, but found there wasn’t enough demand during the usual work week hours.

This time it will be an evening launch and will feature a lot of the same vendors found on Saturday mornings, plus a food truck every week and live music, which will both be part of this Tuesday’s opening.

“We tried to do this so the people who might not be able to come on Saturday would have the opportunity to come on a different day instead,” said Stephanie Collins, the market’s new manager of about a week and a half. “We’re going to try to offer a variety, both with the food trucks and the entertainment at the market. We want to keep it local.”

Collins, who replaces longtime manager Jimmy Winters, spent the previous 16 years as director of volunteer services with NASH UNC Health Care. She’s a Rocky Mount native and earned her degree in business administration at East Carolina University.

She oversees everything from marketing to vendor checks to, organization of the new Tuesday afternoon and night hours.
