From the long-awaited official launch of a new brewery to the usual range of options, the Rocky Mount Mills will have a lot to offer and do this June and throughout the rest of the summer.

BDD Brewing Co., which has opened on select weekends teasing samples of their upcoming beers for the past few months, will have its grand opening on June 23. The newest brewing addition to the Mills is neighbor to the multi-use beer garden and Hopfly Brewing on the Tar River side of the mill.

If you’re in the neighborhood in search of their storefront — look for the big Sasquatch statue out front. It’s heavier than it looks.

To begin the month will be the Rocky Mount Mills 5K on Saturday. Along with the race, which begins at 8:30 a.m., food trucks will be on site by 9 a.m., live music will start at the same time — and although the event technically ends at noon, beer will be served as normal all day. More information on the race, which is held in part to raise money for research on cystic fibrosis, can be found at mills5k.com

In between those two events, there will also be two Saturdays in a row of live music on June 9 and June 16. That first Saturday, the Mill Music Sessions will feature music by A Blues Revue. On June 16 will be Music in the Garden with Meredith Johnson.

The ongoing running group will continue through June and gathers at Goat Island Bottle Shop every Wednesday at 6 p.m. Yoga will be available at the Mills every Monday and Tuesday. In that same vein, since May 31, all are welcome to the Brews Cruise event, a biking club every Thursday that leaves from Hopfly Brewing at 6:30 p.m.

Much more will be happening throughout July and August. Those interested can keep with up the all the Mills have to offer via Facebook, RockyMountMills.com, and its newsletter — Views & Brews Weekly Newsletter, which can be subscribed to on Facebook or the website.
