A Rocky Mount man has been convicted of first-degree murder in connection with a 2015 homicide in Edgecombe County.
Martellus Davon Sanders, 23, of the 500 block of Arlington Street, was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without chance of parole for the shooting death of Quentin Allen. The verdict came after the case was heard from Jan. 9-11 by an Edgecombe County jury.
On Nov. 26, 2015, Edgecombe County deputies responded to reports of shots fired and a vehicle collision in Country Estates Mobile Home Park outside Rocky Mount. Upon arrival, deputies found a wrecked vehicle occupied by Allen, who was dead. The investigation revealed that Allen had been killed by gunfire, Lt. E.W. Muse said in a press release Wednesday.
Sanders and three other suspects were arrested and charged for the crime in January 2016. However, the charges against two of those suspects were later dismissed. Charges are still pending against two co-defendants, Tony Defonz Battle, who was originally arrested and Michael Sharkeen Wilson, who was later arrested and charged in the homicide.
Muse said that evidence in the trial revealed that Sanders held a one-star rank in the Nine Trey Bloods gang.
