The Edgecombe County Public Schools Board of Education meeting normally slated for the second Monday in each month will be held on Thursday this week instead.

During the recognition portion of the meeting, the school board will discuss the Tarboro High School 1A Tennis State Championship. The two focus schools of the month — W. A. Pattillo Middle School and Stocks Elementary School — also will offer presentations to the school board.

School board members will discuss several policies and agreements during the meeting, including a new state-mandated policy establishing a business advisory council for the school district. A five-year memorandum of agreement between Edgecombe Community College, Edgecombe County Public Schools and Edgecombe Early College High School also will be discussed.

The school board is expected to discuss and approve a classified bus driver salary scale for the 2017-18 academic year. Action also is expected to be taken on a resolution concerning the rental of school facilities.

After a closed sesson, the school board is scheduled to reconvene in open session to approve some personnel management decisions discussed in the closed session. The school board also will discuss and vote on the 2017-18 district and school improvement plans.

Anyone member of the public who wishes to address the school board at the meeting should come early enough to sign up to speak just prior to the meeting. The board has established a three-minute time limit for comments at meetings. These comments will be taken into consideration by the board, but feedback will not be given during the meeting, according to school board policy.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the board rooms at the old Central Office location at 412 Pearl St. in Tarboro.
