Two people escaped injury Thursday when the car they were riding in went off the road and into Maple Creek.

Rocky Mount firefighters responded to a report of an accident with injury at 1:34 p.m. at the intersection of Bethlehem Road and Michael Scott Drive. They were assisted by the Rocky Mount Police Department, Stony Creek Rescue Squad and Nash Emergency Medical Services.

Rocky Mount Fire Administrative Capt. Kim Wittig said when firefighters arrived, they found a car submerged in a creek at the intersection. She added two people that were inside the car got out before firefighters arrived and were uninjured.

A wrecker was called in along with the Stony Creek Rescue Squad to help pull the car out of the creek.

The exact cause of the wreck remains unknown. There is also no word yet if any charges will be filed.
