The new Tidal Wave Auto Spa in Rocky Mount is now open for business.

The car wash located at 1615 Benvenue Road next to the Cobb Corners shopping center was doing a free car wash trial last week to gauge customer interest in Tidal Wave Auto Spa and help start the building of a customer base, said Coty Stevens, Tidal Wave Auto Spa’s team development leader.

Rocky Mount represents the first location for the car wash company in North Carolina, Stevens added. Tidal Wave Auto Spa, which is headquartered in Georgia and started in 2004, has several locations in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

“We felt like Rocky Mount is an up-and-coming city and we wanted to grow with Rocky Mount,” Stevens said. “We plan on expanding in North Carolina.”

Alan Matthews, director of economic development for the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, said the car wash has an opportunity to receive a high volume of traffic based on its location.

“The Chamber and the city of Rocky Mount welcome this new business to the community,” Matthews said. “They’ve identified a great site in which to do business, with that corner being one of the busiest or highest traffic counts in our city. We wish them the best.”

Stevens said people coming to the car wash will have the exterior of their cars cleaned through a traditional conveyor belt and will have the choice to self-vacuum their car and clean the windows.

“We don’t hand finish the car and we don’t clean the inside of the car, but we do provide or offer everything the customer needs free of charge,” he said.

While there are several car wash options in the area, Stevens believes Tidal Wave Auto Spa’s unlimited wash club plan will eventually set it apart from competitors. Tidal Wave Auto Spa also has hired 10 to 12 employees. Workers must be 18 or older to work at the car wash.

Stevens said there were about 100 people who interviewed for jobs at the car wash.

“We wanted to hire the right people that demonstrated our culture of great service,” he said. “Our goal is to become the official car wash in Rocky Mount.”

In September of each year, Tidal Wave Auto Spa designates the third Friday of the month as charity day. One hundred percent of all proceeds from all sales made that day are donated to special needs charities. Tidal Wave Auto Spa has donated more than $250,000 to different charities, according to the company’s website.

“We deal with organizations where our fundraising directly benefits people, and we are looking forward to working with organizations in this local area,” Stevens said.
