While local government offices will be closed July 4, kids still will get to go swimming and spend the day at the park.

The Denton Street Pool and Sunset Park will be open normal hours on Independence Day.

Also, for the first time in several years, Rocky Mount trash pickup will continue as normal July 4. Rocky Mount Public Works will provide residential garbage, recycling and yard waste collection as scheduled.

In observance of Independence Day, city offices in the Frederick E. Turnage Municipal Building will be closed July 4, a Tuesday. Also closed that day will be the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences, the Booker T. Washington Community Center, the Rocky Mount Senior Center, the South Rocky Mount Community Center and Rocky Mount Wilson Gym.

Buses with Tar River Transit will not operate on the holiday.

The N.C. Driver’s License offices and license plate agencies will be closed July 4, but open July 1, a Saturday.

All Alcohol Beverage Control stores will be closed July 4, so buy your liquor early.

County administration offices in Nash and Edgecombe counties will be closed as well as municipal offices in Nashville and Tarboro.

The Nash County Board of Commissioners moved its regular-scheduled meeting from July 3 to July 10. The Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners will meet as scheduled at 7 p.m. July 3.
