Local residents will soon have another option to get their vehicles clean.
Construction continues on a new car wash called Tidal Wave Auto Spa that set to open early summer on 1615 Benvenue Road next to the former Old Navy building by the Cobb Corners shopping center.
Alan Matthews, director of economic development for Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, said the car wash has an opportunity to receive a high volume of traffic based on its location.
“The Chamber and the city of Rocky Mount welcomes this new business to the community,” Matthews said. “They’ve identified a great site in which to do business, with that corner being one of the busiest or highest traffic counts in our city. We wish them the best.”
Tidal Wave Auto Spa is owned by SHJ Construction Group, a design-build firm, located and headquartered in Thomaston, Ga. Alyson Ford, marketing specialist for SHJ Construction Group, said what makes this project unique is the company has chosen Rocky Mount to be the site of its first car wash in North Carolina.
Ford said Rocky Mount will be the company’s 13th location, having several car washes in Georgia, South Carolina and one in Florida. Tidal Wave Auto Spa began operations in 2004. The proposed cost of the Tidal Wave Auto Spa in Rocky Mount is estimated to be around $960,000, according to the city of Rocky Mount’s Planning and Development Department.
“We’re excited to be in Rocky Mount,” Ford said. “We’re looking forward to opening, being part of the community and providing good customer service. We are an express, exterior car wash — meaning your car goes through the tunnel and you get your vehicle cleaned and washed down the conveyor belt. Customers also have the option of receiving free vacuum or interior cleaning.”
Ford said the plan is to hire between 12 to 14 employees, with the hiring process beginning a month before Tidal Wave Auto Spa opens. She added SHJ Construction Group will hire a car wash manager within the next few months, who is required to go through training in Georgia.
According to the company’s website, in September of each year, Tidal Wave Auto Spa designates the third Friday of the month as Charity Day. One hundred percent of all proceeds from all sales made that day are donated to special needs charities. Tidal Wave has donated more than $250,000 to these charities.
