Brooke Simpson, a recent finalist in “The Voice” competition, will be performing Saturday in a Welcome Home Concert in Weldon.

The Brooke Simpson Welcome Home Concert will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Griffin Centre on the campus of Halifax Community College at 100 College Drive in Weldon. Advance Ticket prices are $25, VIP tickets are $40 and tickets will be $30 at the door, if any remain.

Simpson, a native of Hollister and a member of the Haliwa-Saponi tribe, won third place in the season 13 of “The Voice” competition that ended in December. Simpson was coached by singer Miley Cyrus during the run of the show.

Now Simpson is looking ahead to greater challenges as she is slated to perform in upcoming shows in Los Angeles, Orlando and Knoxville, Tenn. However, she is kicking off her tour in Weldon, near her birthplace. Simpson’s father, Mike Mills, said it was important to Simpson that the tour begin in North Carolina.

“Brooke is so thankful for the  tremendous hometown support she received from North Carolina,” Mills said. “The people from this area especially rallied around her. They voted and helped those who did not know how to vote. No matter where she goes from here, Brooke will not forget where she came from. Home and family are important to her.”

Mills also said Brooke hopes to inspire others while she home for a few days. To this end, she met with students at Hollister Elementary School on Wednesday and at the Haliwa-Saponi Tribal School on Thursday morning.

“These children really supported her during her time on the show and Brooke wanted to meet with them and encourage them to follow their own dreams,” Mills said.

As far as Brooke’s future, Mills said several organizations have reached out to Simpson and she is exploring her options.

“We are hoping that something concrete will develop soon. She already has some tentative performances scheduled opening upcoming NBA games,” Mill said.
