Letter to the Editor: Immigration crisis can't be ignored

Pictures don’t lie. Have you ever poked a fire ant hill and seen hundreds of ants stream out from under the surface?
A long range video on May 29 showed over a thousand illegals rushing the border in El Paso, Texas, and it visually looked like ants scurrying across the border. I can already hear the intolerant, humorless liberals being “triggered” by my analogy, while they physically assault and verbally attack conservatives on a daily basis.
The point that matters is we no longer have a crisis at the border, what we have is a man-made disaster. A disaster caused by an irresponsible Congress on both sides of the aisle. After being criticized in the past for putting forth illegal immigration statistics, these are the most accurate statistics from reputable agencies.
The Pew Research Center estimates that illegals make up approximately 3.5 percent of the general population. Estimates range anywhere from 11 million to 30 million; we really don’t know, since liberals are against including citizenship on the 2020 census. The FBI reports that between 2003-2009, there were over 183,000 murders committed in the U.S., and illegals committed 25,064 of those murders. Since most law enforcement occurs at the state and local level, it is not reasonable to simply extrapolate immigrant criminality from the federal data.
More importantly, the General Accountability Office reports between 2011-2016, 730,000 criminal aliens were in state prisons and local jails. They accounted for 4.9 million arrests for 7.5 million offenses. Even more serious, the imprisoned illegals over that five-year period had been arrested for 33,000 homicide-related offenses, which includes murder, manslaughter and drunk driving deaths.
The conclusion I have drawn is this: Not one of those 33,000 souls needed to die. These numbers reflect only those who were caught and convicted, as the actual number of homicides committed by illegals is likely much higher. The Democrats who promote open borders, amnesty and sanctuary cities, as well as the liberal-loving media supporters, are accessories to mass murder.
So what does all this “blood” costs us in treasure? According to the Center for Immigration Studies, incarceration, housing, medical, education and food cost taxpayers 22 billion dollars a year. Merit-based immigration would lock out career criminals and favor those with self-sustaining skills. The well-orchestrated, merry-go-round invasion of “negative human capital” immigration will continue to inflict death on innocent citizens, redistribute our wealth and create a new permanent bloc of Democratic voters.
