Letter to the Editor: Entrust yourself to Christ
Tuesday, June 11, 2019
My morning walk on the trail around the farm gives me different images of our pond. Sometimes it is full and looks fresh and clean. This morning the water level was down and the pond was not aesthetically pleasing. Our pond does not have a living stream to feed it therefore its beauty depends on rain.
Life without God and His fountain of living water reminds me of our pond without a living stream.
Life can be filled with beauty or not, financial success or poverty, temporary happiness or sadness and career success/security or not. But regardless of ones lot in life, without God’s fountain of living water we have no eternal beauty, no eternal happiness and no eternal security.
Jesus told the woman at the well in John 4:10 that He could give her living water. He told her His living water would cause her never to thirst again.
John 7:37 – Jesus said, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'"
Believes in V.38 means to entrust (especially one spiritual well being to Christ).
How does one entrust themselves to Christ? Acts 2:36-41 tells us that Peter preached the gospel of Christ and people were convinced Jesus was the Christ. They ask Peter what they needed to do to be forgiven of their sins? Peter told them to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins and they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Peter told those who believed the Gospel to save themselves from that crooked generation. So those who received Peter’s message were baptized and they were added to the saved/Christ’s church.
We who are saved will have access to rivers of living water and the tree of life when we step into eternity.
Revelation 22:1 - Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life.
My access to the living water/tree of life is dependent on me entrusting myself to Christ.
The promise below is to all who have entrusted themselves Christ.
Revelation 7:17 - God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
