Letter to the Editor: Not so fast, Mr. Trump

Saturday, April 6, 2019

Rightwing News and this president are already beating their chest stating that there was no collusion between Trump and the Russians.

Trump is premature in celebrating that he has been exonerated of all wrongdoings. Well, not so fast Heir Donald. Special Counsel Robert Mueller stated that he could not find evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, but that does not exonerate Donald Trump. We must remember that there are still 16 active investigations regarding the Trump Administration.

This is even more disturbing because of what happened at the Helsinki Summit. In facing Putin concerning Russian interference, Trump looked like a frightened child facing the schoolyard bully. If Putin has no incriminating information on Trump, he truly looked like a weak leader in facing the Russian dictator. There was something definitely wrong with that picture. Mr. "I punch back" was at a loss for words when confronting his advisory. We cannot allow Russia to run rough shod over this country because of perceived business dealings with the Trump organization.

Plus I do not think Attorney General Barr is one who is completely trustworthy. There was a reason Trump selected him for the position. For the good of the country, we had better get a grip on what the actual threat to the United States is: Russia! Putin has longed to cause chaos and jeopardize our pursuit of happiness. Troubling is that Trump must indeed have his head buried in the sand, if he hasn't been briefed on the spike in domestic terrorism. Then again, he is also the "Liar in Chief."

What is also baffling is that even though there was clear evidence of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, this president has done absolutely nothing to counteract it. One must wonder why this is. I guess he is leaving the door open for further Russian interference in 2020. Plus Trump said allow the American people to see the Mueller Report. So what is the problem with releasing it?

In closing, that great economy Trump brags about may be coming to a halt. With the way the deficit has increased, things may seem good, but you had best watch out for what may lie ahead. Spending is not staying aligned with revenue. So we all know where that leads when this happens. Another Democratic president has to come in and clean up the mess. Just as Obama did for Bush, someone will have to clean up Trump's mess.
