Letter to the Editor: Facts don't support GOP

Wednesday, November 28, 2018

The last letter from Perry LaGrange is so full of exaggeration and sensationalism that it belongs in the category of yellow journalism.

Instead of relying on well researched facts, LaGrange copies whatever President Trump says in his tweets, even though they contain little to no truth and experts have largely debunked them.

We could use the same arguments against Republicans and the Right that LaGrange uses against Democrats and the Left. So let’s use LaGrange’s words and twist them around to argue the other side of the coin. Here goes.

The rule of law means nothing to the Right and the Republicans because they continually try to suppress the votes of people of color by racial gerrymandering and voter ID laws here in North Carolina and other states.

Apparently the Right and Republicans don’t believe in the sanctity of human life because they continually refuse to pass any kind of common sense gun laws. At least 15,549 people were killed by guns in the United States in 2017, not including suicides, according to the nonprofit Gun Violence Archives. And so far in 2018, at least 13,186 people were killed by guns. The Guardian website reported that since 1968, more people were killed by gun violence than those that died in all the wars the US has fought to date.

Republicans continue to side with the killers, like the Saudi prince who ordered the Washington Post journalist killed as long as Saudi money keeps rolling in. The new climate report also predicts that climate change will cause thousands of deaths and a 10 percent drop in the economy here in the US, and cause more death and suffering around the world. The president denies global warming in order to keep the oil industry rolling in the dough.

Republicans who align themselves with President Trump apparently have no shame. They believe that liar who tweets from the White House, the one who gropes women and sides with the killers in order to make money.

If you believe President Trump that he is doing such a great job, take heed to what Machiavelli said: “One who deceives will always find those who allow themselves to be deceived.”
