Letter to the Editor: Promise program created climate of chaos

Monday, May 21, 2018

The Sun-Sentinel reported some very disturbing news about Broward County, Fla., schools. School officials, under the Promise program enacted under the Obama era, refused to administer disciplinary actions for students that possibly committed felonious acts.

In 2011, the Obama White House wanted to keep more kids in schools; Broward Schools Superintendent Robert W. Runcie endorsed it and in 2013, Promise went into effect.

The program created a climate of chaos where discipline became non-existent, leading to assaults and beatings of teachers and students, all because of pressure from the Obama administration.

In St. Paul, Minn., a high school teacher was beaten and choked out by a 16-year-old who allegedly came up behind him, called him a F****** white cracker, put him in a stranglehold and bashed his head into a concrete wall. The student got 90 days of electronic home monitoring and anger management counseling.

The first year after Obama issued this anti-discipline edict, public schools failed to expel more than 30,000 students who physically attacked teachers or staff across the country.

This leniency allowed children to engage in endless violations and they got to start each year with a clean slate.

Nikolus Cruz, charged with 17 counts of murder and 17 counts of attempted murder for the Valentine’s Day school shooting, was a student under this program. Instead of receiving discipline for his numerous acts of bad behavior he was given a slap on the wrist and a clean slate each year.

CNN should be ashamed of holding the anti-gun town hall meeting exploiting David Hogg, the young teen activist against our Second Amendment right.

The gun had nothing to do with the murders; it was a lack of discipline in the home and schools that lead to this tragedy.

Leniency has no place in our justice system; Lady Justice is blindfolded for a reason. Everyone is to follow the same rules and laws and those who choose to break them must be subject to the same punishment as any other lawbreaker.

I hope Lady Justice will be served well when it comes to cleaning out the swamp in Washington. Our CIA, DOJ and FBI have been politicized and numerous crimes have been committed. I don’t know what those departments are hiding but it will come out despite the stonewalling of transparency to the Congress, which is responsible for oversight of those departments.

I pray for swift justice!
