Letter to the Editor: Gun policies are about government control
Tuesday, February 27, 2018
At least 17 people were killed in a shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida. All of our hearts go out to the families of these victims.
Well maybe not all, because immediately this tragedy became a political drama to whittle away our gun rights.
I want to point out what our Constitution says about gun rights: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”.
Did you notice the people had/have a right to bear arms, PERIOD! This right to bear arms is not to be infringed.
Militia: a military force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular army in an emergency.
Our founders realized that our right to bear arms was for hunting but also for fighting to secure our freedom.
Question: If we need to secure our freedom, do we not need the same weapons that our enemies have?
Timothy Snyder, Yale University’s Housum Professor of History and the author of “On Tyranny” referred to our president as:
■ A tyrant – a cruel and oppressive ruler
■ An authoritarian – favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom
■ A racist – a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another
■ A narcissist – excessive or erotic interest in oneself and one’s physical appearance
I believe our president is a patriot. I believe he wants to get us back to the old paths of our Constitution and God-given rights.
However just for the sake of logic, suppose he is what Timothy Snyder thinks he is, do we not need arms to protect ourselves from this tyrannical, authoritarian, racist, narcissist?
MURDER VICTIMS BY WEAPON (2015):
Blunt objects 437
Bare hands/feet 624
Abortion between 2 & 3 thousand daily in the U.S.A (2015)
Non-citizens commit 22 percent of our murders, have you heard these folks calling for them to be deported?
All this drama about guns is just that, drama to try and infringe on our right to bear arms. This is about government control, not lives.
