Letter to the Editor: Scouting teaches young reader valuable lessons
Friday, February 23, 2018
I am a Boy Scout with Troop 587. I have been involved with Scouting for six years. I started Scouts as a Tiger cub when I was in the first grade. I moved up to Boy Scouts last year when I finished the fifth grade. My favorite things to do as a Scout are to camp and make s’mores around the campfire with my fellow Scouts. Another thing I like about Scouts is it gets me away from electronics and in tune with nature such as when we go on hikes.
Scouting helps me learn very valuable lessons such as always doing my best, doing my duty to God and my country, and to keep my mind and body clean. It also teaches me to be a good sportsman, and to work well together with others. When we had Jakes day last year, my troop had to work together to build the rope bridge and to keep others safe when they walked on the bridge.
In my opinion, Scouting is awesome! I think all boys should join a Cub Scout or Boy Scout group. They will enjoy camping and being outdoors, and will also learn lessons that they can use daily for the rest of their lives.
