Letter to the Editor: New year ushers in opportunity for new beginnings
Thursday, December 21, 2017
This is the time of year when many will plan new beginnings; I want to share some new beginnings in my life.
As a senior in high school we moved and I had to change schools, what seemed to be devastating turned out to be a good thing. I met my husband at West Edgecombe School and less than a year later we had a new beginning as husband and wife.
The next new beginning was when our daughter was born, what a happy day! She was a wonderful baby whom we treasured with all our heart. For the first time we understood the love a parent has for their children.
Another new beginning came along, our Son. He had colic for 6 months so that time was a real struggle. Growing up he was such a challenge and joy in our lives. Again, another parent can only understand the love a parent has for their children.
In 1968 my husband and I were baptized into Christ, another new beginning. I want to tell you why that was/is the best new beginning of all new beginnings.
In Ephesians 1:3-14 we are told that all spiritual blessing are in Christ Jesus. So what are these spiritual blessings?
1. Because I am in Christ God has chosen me to be holy and blameless before Him.
2. In Christ God adopted me as His child.
3. In Christ I have redemption/forgiveness of sins.
4. In Christ I have an inheritance.
5. In Christ I have the hope of living with God, His Son, and all the saved in heaven.
God did all this planning for me before the foundation of the world. He planned it for you too! Will you take advantage of a Father’s omniscient planning by believing the Gospel?
Before the foundation of the world God planned to send Jesus, His Son into the world to die as a sacrifice for the sins of me and you (Acts 2:22-24). Believe that message and allow it to change your mind to follow Christ (Acts 2:37). Tell others/confess your belief in Jesus Christ (Matthew 10:32); be baptized into Christ for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38). Why? So you can have all the spiritual blessing that are in Christ Jesus.
2018 is just around the corner; I hope you will begin with the best beginning ever.
Thank you for allowing me into your home over the years via the Opinion page.
Happy New Year to you all!
