Northern Nash has a new varsity baseball coach.

Knights athletic director Joey Keefe will take over the vacant coaching position, the school announced on Monday. Keefe was named the school's athletic director in February of 2018.

Keefe will take over for Bard Collins, who led the program for the past four seasons.

“In our search for the next leader of our baseball program, we were looking for someone with a vision that would lead our program with character, dedication and the leadership skills that would create and sustain a sense of pride among our student athletes at Northern Nash High School,” principal Brian Hopkins said in a statement.

Collins stepped down as the varsity baseball coach in May following an 0-10 mark in the Big East Conference; he will continue teaching in the business department at Northern Nash.

Collins spent the past four seasons as the Knights’ head baseball coach, and recorded an 18-67 record.

In May, Collins, who won a conference championship in his first season in 2016, said that he believed a coaching change would spark new energy moving forward. Collins has been a coach at Northern Nash since 2009, including holding coaching assistant positions in football and baseball.

“We are very appreciative and grateful for the previous leadership and dedication provided to the baseball program by coach Bard Collins,” Hopkins said.
