SouthWest Edgecombe honored a pair of former basketball standouts at its athletic banquet on Monday.
Former Cougars players Dominique Hudson and Monique Hudson were inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame at a ceremony in the SWE cafeteria. The two were on SWE’s girls’ basketball 2-A state championship-winning team in 2005, as well as the 3-A state runner-up team in 2007.
The twins dominated during their time at SWE, and compiled a 94-18 record over four seasons.
Both earned AP All-State honors, and each scored more than 1,000 points in their respective careers with the Cougars. SWE retired their jerseys in 2007 following their seniors years — Monique’s No. 15 and Dominique’s No. 12.
Dominique and Monique both signed full scholarships to play for Gardner Webb, and both have since graduated. They helped Gardner Webb to a conference championship as well as a bid in the 2011 NCAA Division I tournament.
Both athletes were listed by the NCHSAA among the top 100 athletes to remember in the state’s history.
Monique finished with 1,760 career points and ranks fourth among Cougars scorers.
