Trailing the entire game against Perquimans in the Tobs Classic at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, Nash Central scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 4-3, walkoff victory on Friday night in non-conference action. 

Senior Trey Whitley pitched five innings and allowed two runs, while Sean Henry pitched the final two innings. 

The Bulldogs were trailing, 2-0, in the sixth, but added one in that frame and entered the final inning down 3-1. 

After Perquimans retired the first Nash Central batter, two singles by Scott Henry and Jay Bulluck followed. After a strikeout, a Bulldogs batter reached on an error, followed by a walk drawn by Drifton Padgett to make it 3-2. 

Then, Chandler Padgett hit a double with two strikes on him to knock in the game-tying and game-winning runs, sending the Bulldogs home with a victory. 

The victory lifted Nash Central to 6-4 in its tough non-conference schedule. Eastern Plains play starts for the Bulldogs next Tuesday at Farmville Central. 

Faith Christian 10, Wayne Country Day 0 (6 inn.)

A banner day for Faith Christian’s Alex Crosby led to an easy victory for the Patriots at home on Friday night. 

The senior pitched all six innings and struck out 11 batters while allowing one hit and two walks. At the plate, he finished 4-for-4 with five RBIs. 

The Patriots improved to 4-2 and 2-0 in conference with the victory. 

Rocky Mount High 11, Franklinton 1

The Gryphons traveled to Franklinton on Friday and finished off a two-game series sweep against the Red Rams, improving to 8-2 and 2-0 in the Big East. 

Ben Sieracki pitched for Rocky Mount High and got the victory. Up next for the Gryphons is a two-game series with Wilson Fike beginning on Tuesday. 

North Johnston 7, Northern Nash 1

The Knights dropped a non-conference game on Friday night on the road against North Johnston. Action picks up for them on Tuesday against Franklinton. 


Southern Nash 6, Northern Nash 0 

The Firebirds (6-2, 2-0) hosted Northern Nash and won their second Big East game in a row. They travel to Wilson Hunt on Tuesday. 

Girls’ soccer

Southern Nash 5, North Johnston 1

On the road against North Johnston, Southern Nash picked up a four-goal victory. Nef Gonzalez and Kaylyn Younes had two goals, while Rubi Guetirrez scored the other.
