WEDNESDAY'S PREP ROUNDUP: Rocky Mount High wins big over Nash Central

In a non-conference rivalry baseball game at Nash Central on Wednesday night, Rocky Mount High scored nine runs in the first inning and cruised to a 15-1 win over the Bulldogs in five innings, sweeping the two-game series.
Evan Hart earned the victory for RMHS, completing all five innings in only 60 pitches. The offense gathered 12 hits against the Bulldogs, including a three-run double for Ben Sieracki.
The Gryphons improved to 4-2 with the win while Nash Central fell to 3-3. The Bulldogs head to Southern Nash for a non-conference game on Friday while RMHS next plays at South Johnston on Friday as well.
Rocky Mount Academy 10, Ridgecroft Academy 0, 5 inn.
The Eagles (4-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season on Monday to earn a run-rule win on Wednesday at home.
Isaiah Thomas pitched three perfect innings for RMA, allowing no walks, no runs and no hits while striking out five. At the plate, Thomas added a two-run double.
Colin Legaj, who went 1-for-2 with a double, pitched the final two innings where he struck out three, walked one and gave up one hit.
Rocky Mount Academy 11, Ridgecroft Academy 5
The Eagles (3-0) needed to muster a comeback after trailing 5-0 in the first inning to secure their third consecutive win to open the season.
RMA’s Emily Winstead came on to pitch in the third inning and collected 14 strikeouts while holding Ridgecroft scoreless. Gabbi Stewart and Sadie Blackshear each had two hits for the Eagles, who had nine all together.
Wilson Beddingfield 3, Northern Nash 1
Playing at home in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, Northern Nash dropped a two-run decision to Wilson Beddingfield. Action picks up for the Knights this Friday against West Johnston.
Cleveland 9, Southern Nash 1
Southern Nash held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth, before Cleveland tied the score with a run. Then, host Cleveland scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open the non-conference game.
Carrigan Ewers and Taylor Bailey each had two hits for the Firebirds (3-2).
Greenville Conley 8, Rocky Mount High 0
Playing their third game in as many days, the Gryphons lost a home non-conference match on Wednesday.
RMH (3-3) had its first win streak of the season when it won games on Monday and Tuesday this week, but couldn’t keep it going. Conley beat the Gryphons 9-0 in the season opener back on Feb. 27.
Big East teams compete at Willow Springs
The Knights finished fourth, the Firebirds finished fifth and Rocky Mount High was sixth in a Big East Conference match on Wednesday held at Willow Springs Country Club in Wilson.
Wilson Hunt won the match with a score of 334.
Northern Nash’s Josh Miller tied for sixth with an 88. Southern Nash freshman Carson Winstead fired a 94 to finish among the top 15.
