TUESDAY'S PREP ROUNDUP: Three-run seventh lifts Knights over SWE

In a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon in Pinetops, Northern Nash baseball used a two-run seventh to top SouthWest Edgecombe in late-inning fashion, 4-3.

The Knights (2-1) scored their other two runs in the fourth inning, but the Cougars (0-4) scored a single run in the third, fourth and sixth innings to take a one-run lead into the final frame.

With the victory, Northern Nash ties its win total from all of 2018. The Knights will look for win No. 3 at home on Wednesday against East Wake at 4:30 p.m., while the Cougars will host rival Tarboro (1-2) tomorrow at 7 p.m.


South Johnston 2, Rocky Mount High 0

The Gryphons (3-2), hosting South Johnston on Tuesday night, were held to only three hits in the shutout loss. Sam Mills pitched for Rocky Mount High and went six innings, allowing both runs on seven hits.

The Gryphons will play Nash Central at Nash Central High School tomorrow at 6 p.m.


Northern Nash 6, Roanoke Rapids 0

The Northern Nash softball team picked up a 6-0 home non-conference victory on Tuesday afternoon against Roanoke Rapids, the team’s first victory of the season.

The Knights next play on Thursday at home against Wilson Beddingfield.

Boys’ tennis

Southern Nash 7, Wilson Fike 2

The Southern Nash boys’ tennis team (6-0, 1-0 Big East) picked up a conference victory on Tuesday on the road against Wilson Fike.

For the Firebirds, Dylan Alligood, Hector Perez, David Vasquez and Michael Hernandez all had singles victories.
